Mexican fisherman

There’s a lovely story that’s helped inspire us to change our lifestyle.

An American businessman goes on holiday to Mexico. One afternoon, in a small fishing village, he starts talking to a fisherman.

He finds out that the fisherman spends his morning fishing, catching enough fish to feed his family, pay the rent and enjoy a few beers with his friends in the afternoon.

The businessman sees a great opportunity for the fisherman to get rich. The fisherman listens patiently as he outlines a business plan: Fish all day to double your income, after a year you can buy your own boat and employ your friends to fish for you then, over several years, you can build up a whole fishing fleet.

‘…and then what?’ says the fisherman.

‘…and then you’ll have the money to retire, look after your family and spend your afternoons drinking beer with your friends…’
